HealthReach Doctor Voted Illinois Optometrist of the Year

Charlotte F. Nielsen, O.D. of Grayslake, IL was honored by the members of the Illinois Optometric Association (IOA) Friday, September 17, 2010. She was voted Illinois Optometrist of the Year 2010 during the state’s annual convention. Illinois has approximately 1900 practicing optometrists represented by the IOA. Dr. Nielsen received the IOA’s Young Optometrist of the Year Award in 2000.
Dr. Nielsen has been involved in the profession serving many positions on the Illinois Optometric Association’s Board of Directors, including President 2007 – 2008. She currently serves as the Illinois Keyperson Coordinator for the American Optometric Association and Secretary/Treasurer of the North Central States Optometric Council.
Dr. Nielsen has also been serving her community. Recently her office collected over 1600 pounds of food for the Northern Illinois Food Bank. Currently the office is collecting food and snacks for our U.S. Troops.
Dr. Nielsen is an active member of the Grayslake Chamber of Commerce and St. Paul the Apostle Church in Gurnee. She is a sponsor of Grayslake Youth Baseball, Lake County Lightning Baseball, Carmel Catholic High School’s Street Scenes and Star Gala, and many other local projects.
At the American Optometric Association’s Convention in Salt Lake City, Dr. Nielsen will be nominated for the national award. All 50 states will be presenting their nominees.
